Ginger Rogers Meets New York Fashion Week:
Marchesa Spring 2012 vs. Top Hat (1935)
It is ridiculous how similar these silhouettes are (though obviously Ginger’s is much jazzier), and I like that each just has a touch of a decorative motif on display, deferring to the power of that sexy + dreamlike silhouette above all else. I love the construction of the sheer sleeves on both, as well (how should we characterize those, shape-wise? genie sleeves? balloon sleeves? arm bloomers? MY FANTASY SLEEVES?)
These dresses also equally confuse me, because they look just as much like fancy negligees as they do sweeping evening gowns. WHICH ONE IS WHICH? ARE THEY EACH BOTH? WHAT IS ART? Major pondering points with these two.
