Let's face it - we all want Ginger Rogers' cinematic wardrobe, ja?
Ginger Rogers Meets New York Fashion Week:
Honor Spring 2012 vs. ”Waltz in Swing Time” (1936) and “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” (In Person, 1935)
NOTE: Ginger’s In Person dress here does actually have a little collar, which isn’t showing up in this photo, so, my apologies. Granted, it’s not a Peter Pan collar impression like on the Honor dress (which, if you see the close-up, is not a collar at all, but a color cutout that RESEMBLES one - super confusing), but I loved how the Honor piece just ever so faintly echoes the bodice on these two fabulous Ginger gowns. It’s basically a visualization of the perpendicular seamlines / linear understructure of Ginger’s bedazzling upper-body adornments. Additionally, the cut, drape and fall of the overall 30’s-inspired Honor dress is fairly similar to that of Ginger’s in In Person (even the color, as I believe this In Person dress was turquoise?)Really, though, none of these decorative elements hold a candle to those Swing Time Joan Crawfordesque / Anne of Green Gables puffed sleeves…
